Possums Finish 2007 Fall Season 4-5-1

The 2007 Fall season concluded on January 2nd, with the 5th loss of the season for the GG Possums.  The loss was an example of how frustrating of a season it was for the Possums on the field as they fell to 4-5-1.  Although for the season they were able to score more runs then they gave up (166 for, 161 against), it just was average play most the time from the Possums as they placed 5th in the 7 team league.

The Possums did however have success at the plate as Mike Carrasco finished in 4th place for the batting title at .742 and Dominic Bergin lead the league in RBIs at 28 (tied for 7th most in a season for the Possums).  Leaders for home runs included Dominic with 6 (tied for 2nd) and Brian Stotelmeyer with 4 (8th).

Here are your Possum Leaders for the Fall 2007 Season.

For the season the Possums batted .568 with a .853 Slugging %, pretty much in line with the last couple seasons, put the power numbers were up slightly.  The Possums had their best home run output (16) since the 2006 summer season.  This was one of the best fielding teams in Possums history with a .956 Fielding % (3rd best all time).

Possums Annihilate Happy Hour

The bats of the GG Possums couldn’t be stopped on Wednesday night as they put together 40 hits in their 38-8 victory over Happy Hour. It all started off in the 1st inning with the Possums batting around the order nearly twice and scoring 14 runs in the process. Those 14 were enough to win the game in the end, but that didn’t stop the Possums from waking up their bats and putting on an offensive show! Everyone on the possums got a hit in the game, and every scored at least twice. Key RBIs men of the night were Dominic Bergin with 11 and Stan’s 5. Dominic had 1 2B and 2 Hrs to go along with those RBI. Both Carrasco and and Jason Bergin were perfect for the night going 5 for 5. Out in the field the Possums looked good most the night except for a questionable attempt by De La Cruz that ended up being an error.

Possums are off next week for the Thanksgiving holiday but will return to the ballpark on Wed. Nov. 28th at 7:45 PM. The Possums are currently 3-2-1, unfortunately the league site is not updated with current standings. See you in 2 weeks.

Possums beat Happy Hour 19-12

The Possums bounced back from last weeks tie, by winning a time shortened 4 inning game against Happy Hour. The offense and defense looked great as the Possums hit 5 home runs to pull off their victory. Dominic Bergin was the star of the game going 3 for 4 with 1 double and 2 home runs driving in 5 runs. Other stars were Brian Hansen (3 for 3 4 RBI), and Mike Carrasco (3 for 4 3 Runs, 2 RBI, 2 2B and 1 HR).

The Possums have no game this week and are currently unscheduled for 10/10/07 but that may change. Stay tuned for an update later in the week!

Possums Tie Insect Tribe.

In the Fall 2007 season opener for the Garden Grove Possums, we ended up tying the Insect Tribe 10-10.  We couldn’t get our offense going with only the 4th inning scoring multiple runs (8).  Except for some mental errors in the top of the 6th inning the Possums played tight defense.  Except more offense from the Possums in their next game.

Stars of the game go to.  Schoonover for doubling in the tying run in the bottom of the 6th (2 for 3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B), as well as Saloky (2 for 3, 2 R, 2 RBI), and Stotlmeyer (3 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI).  Every Possum scored a run or got an RBI.

There is a game next week.  Game time will be posted by this weekend once the MLS updates them on their site!

Possums Finish in 3rd Place for Summer 2007

The Possums finally bounced back in an important game that gave the Possums the chance to win their way into 3rd place in the MLS Summer 2007 2nd place trophy.  The Possums were able to pull out a victory with the help of a 13 run 5th inning.  Everyone on the team got at least 1 hit, run, and RBI as the battled their way through a difficult 5th inning that not only saw them score 13, but their opponents “Our Excuse” answer back with 15.

Possums Hit Brick Wall

If before the game on the 22nd I told you the score was going to be 20-4 you would have assumed the Possums were going to mercy rule the Young Punks. But unfortunately it was the Possums that were mercy ruled by the Young Punks in 5 innings. There isn’t much more to say other then that. When a team scores only 4 runs in softball there are no stars and their are no highlights. there are a number of excuses though, but we won’t go over those today.

Next game Shaffer Park at 9:15PM, August 29th! Let’s bounce back and get to a 6 wins and 2 loss record!
